UNDER THE RADAR – UNADAPTED MUSIC IN THE EASTERN BLOC
… is a concert series with 7 concerts in the Chamber Music Hall of the Berlin Philharmonie. An ambitious project focuses on non-conformist composers who composed in the countries east of the “Iron Curtain”, rubbed up against the political conditions and cultural-political guidelines, despaired of them or resigned. Their names are still largely unknown in Europe, their works have been hushed up, marginalised and discredited – they have passed under the radar of public perception.

One highlight is the rediscovered cello concerto by the Polish composer Krzysztof Meyer with the soloist Bartosz Koziak, further brilliant accents are set by Phillip Bohnen of the Berlin Philharmonic with the unknown violin concerto by Kurt Schwaen and Alexander Bader with the clarinet concerto by the Latvian composer Romualds Kalsons. Another unique programme with the participation of the “Children’s Choir of the Deutsche Oper” is dedicated primarily to the Czech Miloslav Kabeláč.
The Kammersymphonie Berlin under the direction of Jürgen Bruns expand their repertoire with a variety of unheard musical treasures from the Czech Republic, Ukraine, Poland, Romania, Latvia, Russia and the former GDR – as pioneers of Modern Music, they had long been part of the repertoire of Classical Modernism and finally got to the performance!
